Great gig

We really enjoyed the support band, Casino. Great upbeat songs and excellent musicians. The lightening seeds covered a huge selection of their hits and some new really good songs. It was a fun evening with lots of singing and dancing from the audience. The Octagon in Sheffield is a great venue. Spacious auditorium. The bar was reasonably priced. Great that’s there’s also an outdoor area.

Indie icons The Lightning Seeds formed in 1989 and are led by Liverpudlian songwriter Ian Broudie. His greatest hits include "Pure", "Perfect", "Lucky You" and "The Life of Riley".

His fellow bandmates include Martyn Campbell (bass, backing vocals), Riley Broudie (rhythm guitar), Adele Emmas (keys, backing vocals), Jim Sharrock (drums) and Tim Cunningham (saxophone, clarinet).

They have released seven studio albums, including Cloudcuckooland (1990), Sense (1992), Jollification (1994), Dizzy Heights (1996), Tilt (1999), Four Winds (2009) and See You in the Stars (2022).

Broudie famously teamed up with comedians Frank Skinner and David Baddiel to write their football anthem "Three Lions" in support of England for Euro 1996. It went straight No. 1 and remains one of the most popular songs whenever they play. They released reworked versions for the 1998 and 2018 World Cups which saw them top the charts on both occasions.
